Green Street car park refurbishment begins as motorists warned of temporary odours

Refurbishment work has begun at St Helier’s Green Street car park, with drivers being advised that some areas may have an unpleasant smell during the upgrade project.
The first phase of the repairs is taking place on the car park’s top deck and is expected to be completed by 10 July.
Contractors will then move through the remaining levels, with the full programme scheduled to finish by the end of August.
Infrastructure and Environment (I&E) said the work includes replacing expansion joints, repairing waterproof coatings, and carrying out maintenance on steelwork and concrete columns. The repairs will focus on the rear sections of each floor, while the rest of the car park will remain open for motorists.
The department said some of the materials used during the refurbishment may create an odour during the works.
“Some of the works will produce an odour, but please be assured that this is not harmful,” I&E said.
