A new report has revealed that the Government of Jersey reduced its staff headcount by 288 between June 2024 and June 2025.
The cuts were concentrated in central administration, affecting departments such as the Cabinet Office, Economy, Digital Services, People Services, and Treasury and Exchequer.
Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham said the strategy was part of a wider effort to strengthen frontline services while streamlining government operations.
He explained that additional recruitment in permanent roles had bolstered key areas, particularly health and education, while a “requirement freeze” in other departments helped reduce overall numbers.
“This approach has allowed us to cut the size of the public sector while keeping resources focused on the services that matter most to islanders,” Deputy Farnham said.
