Gorey Pier Demolition Project Delayed Until Late August

Demolition work on the ageing landing stage at Gorey Pier is set to continue longer than first anticipated, with completion now expected by the end of August.
Plans to remove the historic structure, which has fallen into disrepair, were approved following a planning application submitted last year. The project had originally been scheduled to finish before the busy summer season.
Ports of Jersey said the revised timetable reflects the complexity of carrying out demolition work in a marine environment, as well as periods of extreme heat that have reduced safe working hours for contractors.
The organisation also said that once work began, several minor design changes were identified and incorporated into the project to ensure it could be completed safely and effectively.
A spokesperson for Ports of Jersey said adjustments to the programme are not unusual for projects of this nature, particularly where access is limited and site conditions become clearer as work progresses.
The organisation said it has introduced measures to minimise disruption where possible while maintaining safety standards and thanked pier users, nearby residents and local businesses for their continued patience during the works.
