Residents in Jersey are being given the opportunity to take a free diabetes test this month.
Coop Pharmacy, with the support of Diabetes Jersey, is offering the complimentary screenings to promote early detection and raise awareness as part of World Diabetes Day.
According to the pharmacy, around 4,500 people in Jersey currently live with type 2 diabetes.
Sara Kynicos, Head of Care at Coop Pharmacy, said:
“This simple test could save a life. By offering free screenings, we hope to raise awareness of the symptoms and risks associated with diabetes and encourage early diagnosis.”
The screenings will be held at Grand Marché, St Helier, on 13 November, and at Grand Marché, St Peter, on 14 November, between 09:00 and 17:00 GMT.
No appointment is required, and each screening will take approximately five to ten minutes. Trained pharmacists will be on hand to interpret results, provide education on diabetes management, and answer any questions.
Peter Tabb of Diabetes Jersey said the initiative was an important step in raising awareness of the condition:
“The free testing being offered by the CI Coop is one of the most valuable exercises in helping the charity raise the profile of diabetes, and we are very grateful for their support.”
