Jersey Fire Service Introduces £200,000 High-Tech Command Unit with Drone
Jersey’s fire service has unveiled a state-of-the-art incident command unit valued at £200,000, equipped with advanced technology including a drone to assist in emergency response.
The custom-built, five-tonne Mercedes Sprinter will replace the service’s existing command vehicle, which is set to be decommissioned and sold once personnel have completed training on the new system.
According to the States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, the vehicle has been tailored specifically to the operational needs of the island. Features include swivel front seats to improve crew coordination, an exterior smart screen, and a 2.5-metre retractable awning to create a functional outdoor workspace.
Station Commander Adam Rogers described the vehicle as “flexible enough to be deployed throughout the island,” adding that the integrated drone technology would offer “greater situational awareness” during incidents.
