Fire Ban Introduced at St Ouen Nature Reserve Amid High Wildfire Risk

A temporary ban on fires and barbecues has been introduced at a protected nature reserve in St Ouen as authorities warn of an increased risk of wildfires.

St Ouen's Honorary Police said the combination of dry conditions and strong winds had created an extremely high fire risk, meaning no fires or barbecues are permitted at La Mielle de Morville National Park until further notice.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service warned that any wildfire starting under the current conditions could spread rapidly and become severe. Jersey Water also highlighted that tackling wildfires places additional strain on the island's water supplies.

The National Trust for Jersey, which manages parts of the reserve, urged visitors to act responsibly while enjoying the countryside during the hot weather, asking people to use common sense to help protect the landscape.

Honorary police acknowledged the fine weather was encouraging more people to spend time outdoors but appealed to the public to respect the temporary restrictions in order to safeguard the environment and keep everyone safe.

They also reminded islanders that fires, barbecues and camping are prohibited at Grantez Dolmen at all times, regardless of weather conditions.
