A new fast ferry service between Jersey and St Malo is set to begin this weekend, following successful trial runs scheduled for Friday, operator DFDS has confirmed.
The vessel, Tarifa Jet, was originally due to enter service on 28 March, but its maiden voyage was cancelled due to technical issues. After undergoing maintenance, the ferry is now preparing to welcome passengers from Saturday.
The introduction of the high-speed vessel will allow the slower Stena Vinga to be reassigned to routes connecting Jersey with Portsmouth and Poole.
DFDS took over the Channel Islands routes from long-standing operator Condor Ferries in March, ending Condor’s six-decade tenure.
“The Tarifa Jet will now serve our St Malo route, freeing up the Stena Vinga to support our northern sailings,” a DFDS spokesperson said. “We’re also grateful to the Côte D’Albâtre, which has been covering the Portsmouth route during the maintenance period.”
The company also thanked customers for their patience, adding, “We’re excited to finally welcome them on board.”
