Designers are being invited to submit proposals for a new cycling pump track planned for land next to Coronation Park.

The Government of Jersey has opened a tender process for the project, which is intended to cater for cyclists and users of other wheeled sports, including skateboards, scooters and rollerblades. Submissions are open to designers based in Jersey, the UK and France, with the deadline set for the end of January.

The proposed pump track forms part of ongoing discussions about the future of Coronation Park, following the donation of land at Millbrook Playing Fields to the island in 2022 by an anonymous benefactor.

A pump track typically consists of a compact, looping circuit of rollers and banked turns that riders generate momentum on without pedalling.

Islanders were asked for their views on how the donated land should be used through a public consultation launched later in 2022. Suggestions ranged from children’s play facilities and gardens to more adventurous features such as tunnels, mazes and zip lines.

While no final decisions have yet been announced, an Infrastructure Department spokesperson said a formal planning application for the site is expected to be submitted in the coming weeks.
