Cracked Tree Sparks Overnight Hospital Disruption in St Helier

Outpatients at Jersey General Hospital were temporarily relocated after an unstable tree nearby was deemed at risk of collapsing into the building.

The tree, located in Parade Gardens opposite the hospital, developed a major crack on Monday evening, raising concerns it could fall towards the facility.

Specialist tree surgeons were called in to stabilise the structure before carefully dismantling and removing it using heavy equipment.

As a precaution, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service worked alongside hospital staff to move patients away from exposed areas. Those waiting for appointments and individuals seated near windows in the triage section were transferred deeper داخل the department to reduce any risk.

Emergency crews, including States of Jersey Police, set up a safety cordon and closed the road outside the hospital while the operation was carried out.

The work was completed in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with the area declared safe and the road reopening at around 04:30 BST.
