Complaints made against the Jersey government more than doubled over the past year, according to a newly released report from the States of Jersey Complaints Panel.

The panel recorded 42 complaints in 2025, a sharp increase from 19 filed in 2024. Islanders who disagree with decisions made by ministers, civil servants, or government departments can submit formal complaints, which are then reviewed by the panel’s 20 unpaid members.

The report also highlighted concerns about accountability, noting that one government department declined to attend one of the two hearings held last year. The panel described hearings as a “fundamental part of demonstrating government accountability.”

Panel chairman Geoffrey Crill said the increase in cases had made for a particularly demanding year. “This has been a very busy year for the panel, with more than double the number of complaints received than in 2024,” he said.

Despite the rise in complaints, the panel reaffirmed its commitment to examining concerns raised by islanders and working to improve public sector services across Jersey
