Bubbletecture Draws Thousands Before Closing in St Helier

A striking public art installation that transformed St Helier’s streets into a shimmering spectacle has wrapped up, drawing more than 42,000 visitors in just over two weeks.

The project, Bubbletecture, featured clusters of giant, colour-shifting spheres that glowed and glistened in the changing light. Created by Australian studio Atelier Sisu and brought to Jersey by ArtHouse Jersey, the installation also played host to performances, yoga classes, craft workshops and family activities.

Organisers said the response was overwhelming, calling it proof of “the power of bringing art out of the gallery and into everyday life.”

Despite some setbacks — including wet and windy weather that forced the bubbles to be deflated at times — ArtHouse Jersey described the overall experience as “extraordinary,” with visitors turning out in huge numbers and leaving glowing feedback.

The work formed part of the Butterfield Public Art Series, run with the support of the Jersey Development Company. JDC chief executive Steve Marie said events like this were vital in helping St Helier evolve into “not only a centre of business but also a vibrant cultural hub.”
