Tucked away in a beautifully restored townhouse in the centre of St Helier, Banjo is more than just a restaurant with rooms—it’s a destination in its own right. Combining boutique luxury with a lively dining atmosphere, it strikes the perfect balance between sophistication and warmth, making it equally appealing for a special night out or a weekend escape.

From the moment we arrived at Banjo, tucked away in a handsome townhouse in St Helier, we knew we were in for something special.

Part of the stylish Jersey Pottery group, Banjo effortlessly blends the elegance of a boutique hotel with the charm and energy of a vibrant dining destination. Whether you’re visiting for a night out or a full weekend retreat, Banjo delivers on all fronts—sophistication, comfort, and outstanding food.

We began our evening in Banjo’s beautiful cocktail lounge, a warm and welcoming space that channels the golden age of classic hotel bars. With plush seating, dim lighting, and attentive service, it was the ideal place to relax and let the week melt away.

The cocktail list is thoughtfully curated, combining timeless classics with inventive house creations. Our drinks—a smooth, citrusy martini and a bold negroni—were mixed to perfection by skilled bartenders who clearly take pride in their craft.

After our pre-dinner drinks, we were shown to the main restaurant, where the décor is just as impressive: a blend of contemporary design and Edwardian grandeur, complete with high ceilings, ornate woodwork, and soft lighting that sets an intimate tone. The atmosphere struck just the right balance—elegant but not intimidating, lively but not loud.

For dinner, we both chose the chicken risotto, and it did not disappoint. Creamy, rich, and deeply satisfying, it showcased the kitchen's ability to take a simple dish and elevate it through precision and quality ingredients. The rice was perfectly cooked, the flavours well balanced, and the portion generous without being overwhelming. The service throughout our meal was impeccable—friendly, knowledgeable, and never overbearing. It’s the kind of attentiveness that makes you feel genuinely cared for without interrupting the flow of the evening.

The real standout, though, was our stay in the Ernest Room—one of Banjo’s signature suites. Spacious and stylish, it was the perfect retreat after a memorable evening. The décor was thoughtfully curated, combining modern luxury with timeless touches: think soft lighting, high-end linens, elegant furnishings, and an overall feeling of calm sophistication. Our suite also featured a generously sized bathroom, complete with fluffy towels and high-end toiletries. A highlight was the sumptuously comfortable bed, which made it all too easy to enjoy a slow morning the next day.

The following morning, we lingered a little longer in the room, soaking up the tranquil atmosphere and enjoying the view from our window overlooking St Helier’s charming rooftops. The attention to detail throughout the accommodation is what truly sets Banjo apart—it’s not just a place to sleep; it’s an experience in itself.

Banjo is a fantastic find in Jersey: a venue that offers just as much charm for locals looking for a stylish night out as it does for visitors in search of a refined island escape. With its seamless blend of luxury, personality, and culinary excellence, it’s the kind of place that stays with you long after you check out.

We’ll certainly be back.

Verdict: A polished, characterful retreat where fine dining and boutique comfort go hand in hand. Ideal for romantic getaways or indulgent staycations.
