Preparatory work to remove asbestos from Fort Regent has moved a step closer, with plans submitted to allow the major redevelopment project to begin.

The ambitious £110m regeneration of the St Helier landmark, led by the Government of Jersey and the Jersey Development Company (JDC), is expected to include a new entertainment arcade, an e-gaming facility and a multi-purpose arena with capacity for up to 2,500 people.

Before construction can start, contractors must first carry out a “soft strip” of the site. This involves removing non-structural elements, including ceiling coverings, flooring, carpet tiles, skirting boards and bathroom fittings.
