The Harbour Gallery is opening an exhibition on 23rd January featuring artwork created by islanders living with mental illnesses.
The pieces were developed through Art in Focus, a series of workshops run since 2023 in partnership between Focus on Mental Illness and the Art in the Frame Foundation. The exhibition aims to help artists gain confidence and recognition, with works also available for purchase.
Liz Kendrick-Lodge, Co-Executive Director of Focus on Mental Illness, said the project highlights the therapeutic benefits of creativity.
“People are managing symptoms through being creative, while also gaining support for their mental health,” she said. “We all have mental health, whether or not we have a mental illness.”
The exhibition provides a platform for island artists to showcase their talents and share their experiences with the wider community.
