Appeal cleared for 26-home development in Victoria Village

A 26-home development in Victoria Village has been given the go-ahead after a planning appeal against the original refusal was upheld.

Planning Minister Sir Mark Boleat has approved proposals for new homes at La Ruette, La Rue du Moulin du Ponterrin, following an appeal by developer Castletree Eco Village.

The scheme was rejected by the former Planning Committee in April. However, planning inspector Fortune Gumbo subsequently reviewed the case and recommended that permission should be granted.

Concerns had been raised by the Victoria Village Community Group, particularly over additional traffic and proposed changes to La Rue du Moulin de Ponterrin.

The inspector ultimately found in favour of the developer, paving the way for the project to proceed.

The development will involve the partial demolition of an existing property and the construction of a mixture of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.

Plans also provide for gardens, car parking and changes to the site's existing access arrangements.

As part of the scheme, the current vehicle entrance onto La Rue du Moulin de Ponterrin will be relocated. New pedestrian paths will also be created, along with a dedicated children's play area.

A Grade 4 listed bakehouse on the site will be retained as part of the development.

The project is expected to significantly change the site while providing a mix of housing types within the village.
