Criticism Over Paid Lounge Replacing Jersey Airport Viewing Deck
Passengers have voiced disappointment over plans to replace Jersey Airport's free upstairs viewing deck with a paid-for premium lounge.
The new lounge, operated by No1 Lounges and set to open next year, promises
"panoramic sea views, exceptional hospitality, and seasonal hot dishes," according to Ports of Jersey.
However, many travelers have expressed concerns. Father of three Sam Hirst called the change an "absolute shame," saying the current space is ideal for families, especially during delays. Another parent described the free deck as a "safe haven" for traveling alone with a baby, calling the premium lounge "unaffordable for normal people."
Passenger Colin Pallot questioned the lounge's necessity, suggesting the space could better serve as a family-friendly area or children's play zone.
Ports of Jersey Chief Executive Matt Thomas defended the plan, describing the lounge as a "stylish sanctuary" for guests to relax. While prices are yet to be announced, access will be available via frequent flyer programs, credit cards, or on-site payment.
The airport said it is also creating an alternative quiet area for free use as part of broader redevelopment plans, adding that future improvements will include more viewing spaces for all passengers.
