Jersey Residents Advised to Stay Vigilant as Highest Tide of the Year Hits
Coastal visitors in Jersey are being urged to exercise caution as the island experiences its highest tide of the year so far.
The tide was expected to reach 11.9 meters (39 feet) at 08:40 on Monday, though the exact height could fluctuate depending on weather conditions, according to the coastguard.
Tim Hilditch, duty watch officer for the coastguard, reassured that ferry schedules from the port would remain unaffected, as arrivals and departures are carefully planned around tidal movements.
However, he advised those heading to the coast to remain alert, warning that the tide could rise rapidly.
Fishermen, who are well-versed in Jersey’s tidal patterns, typically schedule their activities around times when tidal currents are at their weakest, Mr. Hilditch noted.
He also emphasised the importance of safety for those fishing at low tide, recommending that they go in groups, inform someone of their plans, and allow ample time to return to shore.
