Jersey Crime Victims Receive Over £500,000 in Compensation in 2024

Victims of crime in Jersey received more than half a million pounds in compensation last year, according to a report from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB).

The board revealed that £564,399.24 was awarded in 2024, with the number of applications and resolved cases rising significantly. A total of 61 applications were processed, up from 42 in 2023, while 49 cases were resolved—an increase from the previous year’s 27.

The Jersey government confirmed that individuals who have suffered personal injury due to a violent crime are eligible to apply for compensation. Awards varied based on the severity of cases, ranging from £1,500 to £100,000, with an average payout of £11,518.35 per case.

Strengthening Support for Victims

The CICB highlighted efforts to strengthen ties with victim support services over the past five years, aiming to improve both the application process and outcomes for those affected by crime. The board has collaborated closely with organisations such as Victims First Jersey, the Police Victims Team, and Jersey Domestic Abuse Support.

"This work will continue through 2025 and beyond," the CICB stated.
