Town Bar Granted Later Weekend Closing Time
A popular town bar has been given permission to extend its weekend opening hours.
Chambers, located on Mulcaster Street, will now close at 2am instead of 1am on Fridays and Saturdays after the Licensing Assembly approved an application from its owner, Randalls.
The move comes as Jersey’s nightlife continues to decline, with several venues shutting down recently, including ROJOs last July and Havana in December. Randalls managing director Gavin Reid told the Licensing Assembly that there was still strong demand for late-night venues, particularly among 18 to 24-year-olds.
“We’ve seen a market for younger people looking for somewhere to go. By extending these hours, we can fill that demand,” he said.
The application faced no objections from the police and was unanimously approved at a St Helier parish assembly. Mr. Reid hopes to introduce the new closing time by Easter and plans to book UK bands and DJs to attract more customers.
With recent closures, only two nightclub venues remain in St Helier—Vittoria and The Drift—both of which have a 21-plus entry policy.
