Thirteen cows rescued after being stranded at sea

Herd of Cows Rescued from Sea in Jersey

A herd of cows was rescued from the sea in Jersey after being cut off by the tide, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service reported. Crews were called to Grouville Bay at 06:40, where 14 cows had swum out—some as far as 300 meters offshore. Sadly, one did not survive.

Firefighters and RNLI teams used ropes to tow the animals to shore, assisted by the farmer and local authorities. Witnesses described the operation as "miraculous" but stressful.

Residents, including former Deputy Jackie Hilton-Egre and her husband, helped warm the cows with duvets and dressing gowns. Emergency services praised the community for their support, saying their efforts were crucial in saving the animals.
