Work is underway to restore the former Allix Shipyard gardens after the Parish of St Helier took ownership of the site earlier this year for £1.
The purchase, approved by ratepayers, has seen improvement work begin, including clearing overgrown plants, replacing old pathways and repairing ground lighting. A new surface has now been laid, and the park has temporarily closed while the ground sets over a 28-day period.
During this time, restoration will also continue on the wooden ship at the centre of the gardens, with efforts focused on improving safety and appearance.
Weather permitting, the gardens are expected to reopen at the end of April.
A second phase of the project is planned after the summer, when attention will turn to restoring key features such as the mosaic, anchor and storm gates.
