A special meeting of the Battle of Flowers committee is set to take place on Monday night amid concerns over the event’s finances.
The accounts, originally scheduled for publication in October 2024, have yet to be released. Additionally, most parishes have not received reimbursement for their expenses.
According to reports from the BBC, some performers and contributors have allegedly not been paid, though this has not been officially confirmed.
The 2024 event marked a significant change to the Battle’s format, with festivities starting on a Friday and featuring a daytime parade, a moonlight parade, and weekend concerts. Alongside the traditional floral floats, the event expanded to include a second day of music and entertainment, with performances by Sam Ryder and former Wet Wet Wet lead singer Marty Pellow.
Monday’s meeting will be followed by the Annual General Meeting, which both committee members and the public are welcome to attend.
