The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, will visit Jersey later this week for a series of meetings and commemorative events.
According to the Bailiff’s Chambers, the Labour MP will meet members of the States Assembly and government ministers to discuss Jersey’s political and constitutional ties with the United Kingdom.
During his visit, Sir Lindsay will also have the opportunity to learn more about Jersey’s unique political traditions, including its parish system and the workings of the Assembly.
A wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph has been scheduled to honour the island’s servicemen and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Bailiff’s Chambers said the Speaker’s itinerary will also include learning about Jersey’s wartime occupation and liberation, as well as a visit to the historic Gorey Castle.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s visit will take place on Thursday and Friday.
