Wind gusts of up to 95mph (154km/h) battered Jersey as Storm Goretti swept across the island on Thursday night, causing widespread disruption and damage.
The States of Jersey said conditions were expected to improve gradually on Friday, although an orange weather warning remains in force. Islanders have been advised to delay non-essential travel while clean-up operations continue.
Emergency and clean-up crews are responding to reports of 86 fallen trees and scattered debris across the island. Power outages have affected around 300 homes, with Jersey Electricity confirming that supply has so far been restored to approximately 100 properties.
Government officials said efforts were focused on clearing main routes first, warning that the scale of the damage meant the island-wide clean-up would take several days.
Public transport was also disrupted. Liberty Bus cancelled school bus services on Friday morning due to multiple blocked routes. The operator said school services were expected to resume later in the day, although buses would be unable to access smaller roads affected by fallen debris. Regular bus services are continuing, but passengers have been warned to expect delays.
Parents and carers are being contacted directly by head teachers with updates on school opening arrangements. The government urged families to take extra care when travelling and to follow official guidance.
Jersey Electricity said parts of the power network were damaged after falling trees brought down overhead lines. Crews are continuing to assess the impact and restore supplies where it is safe to do so.
The utility company thanked customers for their patience and reminded the public to stay clear of damaged power infrastructure and report any hazards immediately.
