The RNLI will resume daily beach patrols across Jersey from Saturday as part of its summer safety operations, alongside the relaunch of its “Float to Live” awareness campaign.
Lifeguards have been completing pre-season induction training ahead of taking up duties at six popular beaches: El Tico, Le Braye, Watersplash, Plémont, Grève de Lecq and St Brelade’s Bay.
This year marks 15 years since RNLI patrols were first introduced on Jersey’s coastline. The charity said its lifeguards and lifeboat crews assisted 370 people and saved three lives across the Channel Islands during 2025.
RNLI Lead Lifeguard Supervisor Jake Elms urged beachgoers to stay safe while enjoying the island’s coastline.
“We want everyone to enjoy the coast safely, but it’s important to respect the sea and changing conditions,” he said. “People should always swim between the flags, follow lifeguard guidance and never underestimate the water.”
Elms also highlighted the RNLI’s “Float to Live” advice for anyone caught in difficulty in the water.
“If you find yourself struggling, tilt your head back, relax and focus on controlling your breathing until help arrives,” he said. “Remaining calm can save your life.”
The RNLI is also reminding the public that if they spot someone in trouble at sea, they should call 999 immediately, encourage the person to float on their back, and use any available rescue equipment without entering the water themselves.
