Gorey café owner Rhona Hewit has announced the sale of her popular seaside business after marking her most successful year of fundraising to date.

This year alone, Rhona raised £10,000 for Enable Jersey, pushing the total amount she has donated to charity during her time at the café to more than £60,000.

The milestone comes as she prepares to retire after two decades at the helm of Rhona’s at the Beach, a fixture on the Gorey seafront known for its community spirit and charitable focus. For the past 20 years, all proceeds from the café’s signature fish finger sandwiches have been donated annually to a selected charity.

Rhona confirmed that discussions are already under way with potential buyers and said she is encouraged by their commitment to preserving the café’s ethos.

“The people that we’re in talks with at the moment all want to run it as it is now,” she said. “They want to keep the name, they want to keep the charity – the fish fingers will continue.

“It’s a great legacy. I started fundraising because of the passing of a family member to suicide. To think that legacy will continue, even after I hang up my apron, is really, really lovely.”
