Parish residents invited to give views on proposed solar farm in Jersey
Residents in a Jersey parish are being asked to share their opinions on plans for a new solar farm.
Jersey Electricity (JE) and the Crown have outlined proposals to install solar panels on Crown land, with the aim of generating enough power to supply around 40% of local homes.
The 22.5-acre Belle Fontaine site would be split between farming and renewable energy, with 11.25 acres earmarked for solar development.
A public consultation is scheduled for 10 September at St Martin’s Public Hall, where parishioners can view the detailed plans.
JE said a mix of solar technologies would be introduced to ensure the land remains productive for agriculture, supporting both crop growing and livestock grazing. To help shape the project, JE and the Crown are working with UK-based Harper Adams University, specialists in food production and agricultural technology.
Receiver General Alan Blair said the initiative was "seeking innovation in agriculture alongside renewable energy generation", adding that it reflects King Charles III’s long-standing commitment to sustainable farming.
Chris Ambler, Chief Executive of JE, described the scheme as a "unique opportunity to strengthen Jersey’s energy independence while innovating in local food production".
