A proposal to divert £4.5 million from the planned redevelopment of Fort Regent to kick-start a new youth club project at Le Squez has been voted down by States Members.

The amendment, debated on Wednesday, was defeated with 14 votes in favour, 29 against and one abstention.

Deputy Karen Wilson, who brought the proposal forward, argued that reallocating the funds would allow construction on the youth facility to begin as early as next year. Although funding for the project already exists, ministers have previously stated it is unlikely to be released before 2028.

The amendment would have shifted money from the capital investment fund and accelerated the approved budget timetable—bringing spending forward to 2026 and 2027 instead of 2028 and 2029—to support the redevelopment of the Le Squez Youth Facility in St Clement.
