Durrell Trust to Host Royal Celebration Marking 100 Years Since Gerald Durrell’s Birth
The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust has unveiled plans for a special royal event celebrating the life and legacy of its founder, Gerald Durrell, on what would have been his 100th birthday.
Widely regarded as a pioneer in wildlife conservation, Durrell’s passion and groundbreaking vision reshaped global approaches to protecting endangered species. To commemorate his centenary, the Trust will host its annual Durrell Lecture: Wild Tales on 4 November, featuring guest speaker and charity patron Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.
This year also marks the conclusion of Durrell’s “Rewild Our World” strategy, a global conservation initiative launched by The Princess Royal in 2017.
Durrell CEO Rebecca Brewer described the upcoming lecture as “a truly inspirational evening,” adding:
“We are delighted to welcome our patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, to speak at this momentous event. We hope our members and supporters will join us in honouring a century of Gerry and celebrating the extraordinary conservation impact of the international charity he founded.”
