Jersey Pupils Watch NSPCC Play on Dangers of Sharing Images
Primary school children across Jersey are being taught about the risks of sharing intimate images through a new NSPCC theatre production.
The Net — created in collaboration with children, parents, and professionals on the island — is touring 28 primary schools this autumn. The play is aimed at Year 6 pupils and follows the story of Sam, a popular girl who believes she is digitally savvy but whose life changes after posting inappropriate images on social media.
Each performance is followed by an interactive workshop led by the NSPCC and the theatre group, where pupils are encouraged to reflect on the storyline.
“They can step into the shoes of the characters, make different decisions and see how those choices change the outcome,”
explained Emma Motherwell, NSPCC Local Campaigns Manager. “Using drama engages them in a way that talking alone cannot.”
The initiative comes amid growing concern over the spread of self-generated child abuse material online. The Internet Watch Foundation reported a 65% increase in the number of images featuring children aged 7 to 10 between 2022 and 2023.
The play forms part of the NSPCC’s Be The First Filter campaign, which also provides webinars and practical advice to parents on how to protect children from online harms.
