Ports of Jersey has announced it will assume control of the Shipyard café at St Helier Harbour, marking a shift in how food and drink services are delivered at the Elizabeth Terminal.

Since 2021, the outlet has been run by JPRestaurants under the Café Ubé brand. However, Ports confirmed that the transition to new management will take place later this month.

Under the new arrangement, passengers using both foot and car ferry services can expect a refreshed offering, including hot rolls, pastries, and convenient grab-and-go options. The organisation said it will work alongside a “trusted local provider” to deliver the updated service.

In a statement, Ports of Jersey said the move is part of a broader effort to enhance customer experience.

“This change reflects our continued commitment to putting customers at the heart of what we do and gives us the opportunity to focus on quality, consistency and the little touches that matter to ferry users and our wider community,” it said.

Facilities within the terminal will remain accessible, with foot passengers still able to use the café seating area, children’s play zone, and toilets after passing through security.

Jersey Harbour Master Captain William Sadler described the change as an opportunity to improve services for the large number of travellers passing through the port each year. He said the aim is to deliver “real improvements to the passenger experience.”

Ports of Jersey has also submitted an application for a licence to sell alcohol at the Shipyard.

The café space has seen several changes in recent years. It was previously operated by the UK-based Casual Dining Group, which entered administration in 2020. The venue first opened in July 2019, more than five years after the harbour’s previous restaurant closed, but operated for only eight months before shutting its doors.
