WWII Mortar Bomb Found in Jersey Dunes Safely Disposed

A suspected World War Two-era German mortar bomb discovered on the sand dunes near St Ouen's Bay has been safely disposed of, police have confirmed.

According to the States of Jersey Police, a member of the public found the device and, unaware of its potential danger, took it home before contacting authorities on Tuesday. The emergency services control centre quickly responded to the call.

The device, believed to contain explosives, was later removed and securely dealt with by a specialist bomb disposal officer.

Police have issued a warning to the public, urging anyone who encounters a suspicious item — such as a shell, mortar, bomb, or marine flare — not to touch or move it, even if it appears old or rusty.

“These items can still be extremely dangerous,” officers said. “If you find something that looks like it could be an explosive device, please leave it where it is and call us immediately.”

Members of the public are advised to contact the States of Jersey Police on 612612 and provide a clear description and exact location of the object.
