Police Chief Robin Smith Appointed Chair of Jersey Opera House Board

Jersey's Chief Officer of Police, Robin Smith, has been named the new chair of Jersey Opera House as the historic venue continues its revival following a major refurbishment.

Smith takes over the position from interim chair Laura Robertson, who led the organisation through a pivotal period that included the theatre's reopening and the appointment of its new chief executive, Sebastian Warrack.

Speaking about his appointment, Smith described the Opera House as a vital part of the island's cultural landscape.

"The Opera House plays a uniquely important role in bringing people together and enriching our shared cultural life," he said. "I'm delighted to be joining the organisation as it enters this new and exciting phase."

The theatre reopened last year after undergoing a £12.7 million refurbishment over five years, completed in time to celebrate its 125th anniversary. Since then, the venue has hosted a series of landmark performances, including special Liberation Day concerts and the three-night Encore! Welcome Home gala to mark its full return.

Chief executive Sebastian Warrack welcomed Smith's appointment, saying his extensive leadership experience and strong connection to Jersey would be a valuable asset.

"Robin brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of Jersey and its communities," Warrack said.

The Opera House began recruiting for a permanent chair in March, with the role expected to require around eight days of commitment each month.
