Plans Submitted to Convert Part of Saint Lawrence Pub into Holiday Let

Plans have been submitted to convert part of the Saint Lawrence Pub in Jersey into self-catering tourist accommodation, with the aim of helping secure the future of the village pub.
The proposal would see part of the building’s ground floor transformed into a one-bedroom holiday let, while the pub would continue operating as usual.
In its planning statement, Socrates Architects said the scheme was intended to preserve the existing pub rather than replace it.
The architects said the proposed accommodation would be run separately by the building’s owner, while the pub would remain open and trading.
They described the development as a practical and sustainable way to support an established village business.
The application comes amid concerns about the future of traditional pubs in the area.
Laura and Simon McTurk, who commented on the proposal, said the anticipated closure of the Mont Felard would leave the Saint Lawrence Pub as the parish’s last remaining traditional public house.
They also argued that the holiday accommodation could benefit other local businesses, including Saint Lawrence Stores, by encouraging visitors to spend money in the area.
The planning application has been published on the Government of Jersey’s planning website.
