A growing petition calling for the removal of goods and services tax (GST) on food has now surpassed 1,000 signatures, triggering an official response from the Government of Jersey.

Campaigners argue that with the rising cost of living, eliminating GST on essential items like food would provide meaningful relief for many islanders.

The petition describes the current financial pressures as “very difficult for a lot of islanders” and suggests that scrapping the tax could be a “great help.”

The petition will remain open for signatures until 31 January 2026.
