Part of St Peter’s main road is set to reopen on Monday after months of phased closures linked to a major drainage improvement project.

Sections of the road have been shut at different stages since October while infrastructure teams carried out upgrades to Jersey’s sewer and drainage network.

The Government of Jersey said the next phase of the project would involve a single-lane closure near the Methodist church as crews complete work on rising mains and a discharge manhole.

Once that section is finished, traffic management measures will move further along La Grande Route de Saint-Pierre to allow properties to be connected to the new sewer system.

The Infrastructure and Environment department said the wider scheme is designed to strengthen the island’s drainage capacity in response to future housing development and increasingly severe weather.

Officials said the upgraded infrastructure would help the system cope with heavier rainfall linked to climate change while also reducing the risk of flooding.

The department added that the improvements are intended to support long-term development plans and improve the resilience of Jersey’s public infrastructure network.
