A disabled parking space and four residents’ bays are set to be removed from a St Helier street after repeated complaints about drivers parking on the pavement.

St Helier Town Hall said the changes will affect Lewis Street, where vehicles have regularly been reported mounting the pavement, creating safety concerns for pedestrians.

In a statement posted on social media, the parish warned that any vehicles still parked in the affected bays after 08:00 on Tuesday 10 February 2026 would be towed away at the owner’s expense.

Officials said efforts had been made to identify replacement parking nearby, but no suitable alternatives were available. The closest disabled parking bays are located at People’s Park, approximately 80 metres away.

Notices have been attached to lampposts along the street to alert motorists to the permanent suspension of the bays and provide details of alternative parking and enforcement measures.

Responding to questions online, the parish said the decision was taken by the St Helier Roads Committee in the interests of public safety.

It added that parish wardens would be stepping up patrols in the area following the removal of the spaces.

The Town Hall also urged residents to report any drivers using access-only roads as shortcuts to the States of Jersey Community Policing Team.
