Motorists Face Delays as Jersey Prepares for Battle of Flowers

Drivers are being urged to plan ahead as several road closures will be in place for Jersey’s annual Battle of Flowers.

Now in its 123rd year, the beloved event is famed for its dazzling floral floats, lively dancers, and carnival atmosphere. This year’s festivities begin on Friday at 13:00 BST, with a two-hour parade starting and ending at the Esplanade. An evening parade will follow on Saturday at 19:30, capped off by a fireworks display.

In a change from previous years, floats will measure 30ft (9.1m) long—shorter than the 45ft (13.7m) designs seen before—but organisers promise no shortage of spectacle. More than 20 floats will take to the streets, accompanied by marching bands, dancers, and local performers.

The parade route will run along La Route de la Liberation, Weighbridge Place, Conway Street, Broad Street, York Street, The Parade, and Gloucester Street.

To accommodate the event, roads on the route will close one hour before and after each parade. Bus services will operate as normal except for routes using closed streets, which will be suspended during the procession.

Organisers, part of a newly formed events team, say they are “brimming with enthusiasm” and eager to celebrate “the incredible community and enduring spirit” of the Battle of Flowers, ensuring the century-old tradition continues to thrive.
