Opening of La Pulente’s Permanent Toilets Still on Hold

Plans to open permanent public toilet facilities at the Nude Dunes development in La Pulente, St Ouen, have been further delayed, according to Jersey’s Infrastructure Minister.

In a written response to a question from Deputy Montfort Tadier, Minister Andy Jehan confirmed that the property owner is still liaising with their insurance provider to ensure they have adequate public liability cover to operate the toilets.

Deputy Tadier had asked for an update on discussions between the government and the property owner regarding the contractual obligation to make the toilets publicly accessible.

Minister Jehan said the owner was “actively engaging with their insurance provider to clarify the requirements for obtaining public liability insurance that would be needed to operate the toilets.”

He added that, following consultations involving Jersey Property Holdings (JPH) and other parties, the owner had identified necessary modifications to the plumbing and electrical systems before the facilities can be opened to the public.

Permanent toilets were originally expected to be available in time for the summer, but temporary facilities remain on site instead.

The minister confirmed that a portable toilet, installed by the owner, has been open and regularly serviced since 18 August. JPH is currently seeking legal advice on whether the installation of the temporary facility fulfils the owner’s contractual obligations.

Mr Jehan said efforts are continuing “to open the toilets within the permanent structure as soon as possible.”
