Launch of New Inter-Island Ferry Service Pushed Back
The long-anticipated inter-island ferry service connecting Guernsey and Jersey, originally scheduled to launch Friday morning, has been postponed.
Islands Unlimited, the operator behind the service, announced the delay, citing setbacks in getting the vessel fully prepared for operations. A company spokesperson said the team had "no choice but to delay" the launch after facing difficulties in achieving full operational readiness.
Trials of the vessel earlier in the week were hindered by adverse weather, restricting testing opportunities and leaving the ferry short of meeting the necessary operational standards.
The 316-seat high-speed catamaran, San Pawl, is now set to begin its daily foot passenger service between the islands on 5 June, the company confirmed.
In a statement, Islands Unlimited expressed "deep regret" over the postponement, noting that the disruption to sea trials had a knock-on effect on their compliance with requirements from local authorities.
“Unfortunately, we are not yet in a position to begin operations,” the spokesperson added. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this delay may cause.”
The company has assured that all affected passengers are being contacted directly via email.
