Schools Launch Events to Tackle Online Safety Risks

Jersey schoolchildren will take part in a series of events this autumn highlighting the dangers of social media and life online.

Mental health campaigner Natasha Devon MBE will visit primary and secondary schools from 15 September with her talk Phones, Social Media & Surviving the Online World, exploring issues such as cyberbullying, screen addiction and the impact of online content on wellbeing.

Later in the month, the NSPCC-commissioned play The Net will tour 28 schools. The production, created with input from young people and parents, tells the story of a girl who faces consequences after sharing images online. Each performance will be followed by a workshop on online safety.

The events are part of the Be The First Filter campaign, run by the NSPCC, Jersey parents and local partners, aimed at encouraging families to discuss the risks of sharing images and helping young people make safer choices online.
