Detectorist ‘saves marriage’ after finding lost ring
A firefighter in Jersey has been credited with saving a marriage after tracking down a lost wedding ring.
Steven Andrews, who spends his spare time using a metal detector to reunite people with their valuables, quickly located the ring after Londoner Ollie Lee lost it while swimming at Grève de Lecq.
Lee, who had been married for just two years, said his family and other swimmers had searched in vain for nearly an hour before calling Andrews, who found the ring within minutes. “It probably saved my marriage,” Lee joked, stressing the sentimental value of the band.
Andrews, who began detectoring in 2018, has since recovered more than 100 treasured items, from rings to phones and even watches. He describes each search as a “little mission,” often braving tides, weather and long hours to return precious belongings to their owners.
