Man Hospitalised After Being Found Unconscious in Flat Fire
A man has been taken to hospital after being discovered unconscious during a flat fire in St Helier, Jersey.
Emergency services were called to a terrace property on Saturday evening after reports of smoke and a sounding alarm at around 8:30pm.
According to Jersey Fire and Rescue, firefighters entered the three-flat building through a window and located the man in a smoke-filled room. He was rescued, given immediate first aid at the scene, and later taken to hospital by paramedics.
Crews quickly extinguished a fire that had broken out in the property’s kitchen area.
Watch Commander Richard Ryan said the incident highlighted the dangers of unattended cooking.
“Even a small fire can develop rapidly and cause serious smoke inhalation or significant damage,” he said.
Mr Ryan also credited the property’s working smoke alarm with playing a key role in the emergency response.
“The alarm made a real difference—it alerted others to call us quickly,” he added.
However, he warned that parked vehicles in restricted areas had delayed the firefighters’ arrival.
“It’s vital that access routes are kept clear at all times so crews can reach emergencies without delay,” he said.
