A long-serving Jersey volunteer has been promoted to one of the highest ranks within St John Ambulance.
Alan Guy has been appointed a commander in the Order of St John in recognition of his “outstanding contribution” to the charity and to public service.
The appointment was formally approved by the Grand Prior, the Duke of Gloucester, on behalf of the King.
Mr Guy, who joined St John Ambulance in August 2010, has played a leading role in the organisation’s youth programmes and is now its most senior volunteer, with a seat on the charity’s board.
Speaking after the announcement, he said: “I am delighted and deeply honoured to receive this recognition. It has been a privilege to serve both St John and the wider community, and I look forward to continuing that service in the years ahead.”
