Jersey Business Groups Partner with Charity to Tackle Mental Health in the Workplace

Two leading business bodies in Jersey have joined forces with mental health charity Mind Jersey to improve awareness and support for mental health in the workplace.

The Jersey Chamber of Commerce and the Institute of Directors (IoD) are collaborating with the charity to offer training and resources aimed at helping employers and staff better understand and respond to mental health challenges.

Lee Madden, President of the Chamber of Commerce, said the initiative is about ensuring members are equipped to recognise signs of mental distress, including suicidal thoughts. “By investing in training and raising awareness, we hope to empower businesses to support their teams more effectively,” he said.

The initiative includes accredited courses in suicide awareness, general mental health awareness, and first aid for mental health. Members of both organisations can access these courses at a 50% discount.

In addition, Mind Jersey is offering a free mental health awareness session this July for HR professionals affiliated with either group.

Mr Madden, who has lost colleagues to mental health struggles, emphasised the responsibility business leaders have in safeguarding the well-being of their staff.

Alex Ruddy, Chair of the IoD Jersey, encouraged members to take advantage of the training, noting its value in fostering healthier, more supportive work environments.
