More Than 18,000 Rental Homes Registered in First Year of Licensing Scheme
More than 18,000 rental properties in Jersey have been registered under the government's new licensing scheme in its first year, according to a recent report.
Launched in 2024, the Rented Dwelling Licensing Scheme requires landlords to obtain a licence for each property they rent out. The measure is part of the Public Health and Safety (Rented Dwellings) (Jersey) Law 2018, which aims to improve housing standards and tenant safety.
The government report revealed that out of Jersey’s 44,583 homes, 20,713 are rental properties—and 18,044 of those have already been licensed under the scheme.
Deputy Steve Luce, Minister for the Environment, welcomed the progress, saying the figures have “set a strong foundation for the future.”
