Push to Reopen La Pulente Toilets Ahead of Summer Season
Efforts are ramping up to reopen the public toilets at La Pulente in time for the busy summer season, as a senior parish official vows to take “necessary action” to restore access for islanders and visitors.
The facilities have remained closed since 2023, following the shutdown of the restaurant that previously occupied the site. Since then, concerns have been raised over public access to basic amenities in one of St Brelade’s most popular coastal areas.
Constable Andy Jehan has criticised the property owners, claiming they have not upheld their obligation to keep the toilets available to the public.
“We’re continuing discussions to negotiate access and ensure the toilets are operated in line with the existing planning agreement,” said Mr Jehan. “It is our clear intention to do whatever is necessary to have them open for summer.”
A planning bid to convert the site from a restaurant to a café with self-catering accommodation was rejected in 2024. A revised application, seeking to repurpose the site for residential use, was submitted in January. A decision from the States of Jersey is still pending.
