Jersey Sees Surge in Knife and Arson Offences in 2024

Jersey experienced a significant rise in both knife-related and arson offences in 2024, according to newly released police statistics.

Data reveals that 51 knife incidents were reported last year, up from 32 in 2023 and 41 in 2022. These offences included individuals found in possession of a knife as well as cases where a knife was used in the commission of another crime.

Arson cases also climbed sharply, with 45 incidents recorded in 2024—more than double the 18 reported the previous year.

Authorities highlighted that a number of these fires were deliberately started by young individuals, with public toilets among the targeted locations.

The figures have prompted concern from officials and community leaders, who are calling for increased efforts to tackle youth-related crime and prevent further escalation.
