Jersey photographer launches project to celebrate island’s diversity

A Jersey photographer is inviting islanders from all walks of life to take part in a project celebrating the community’s diversity and multicultural identity.
Connor Daly is working on Humans, a photography project being shot at the barracks at Grève de Lecq, which aims to capture the people who make up life in Jersey.
He is photographing up to 280 people who live and work on the island, representing a wide range of professions, backgrounds and interests.
Participants so far include retired people, business leaders, healthcare workers, hospitality staff and tradespeople.
“I’ve got CEOs, I’ve got hospitality workers, I’ve got doctors, nurses, painters and decorators, gardeners - the list goes on and on,” Connor said.
He is also encouraging participants to bring items linked to their jobs or hobbies to add a personal touch to their portraits.
Some tradespeople have been asked to wear their work uniforms, while others will pose with objects associated with their professions.
“I’ve had a musician who had a microphone, I’ve got an electrician that’s going to hold a screwdriver or something, a barber can hold a pair of scissors,” he said.
“They’re just little subtle references to what they do as a profession or as a hobby.”
Anyone interested in being photographed is invited to visit the barracks at Grève de Lecq while the project continues until 2 November.
The finished collection will be published on Connor’s website, with a book also planned.
