Jersey Church Proposes New Family Area to Welcome Growing Number of Young Worshippers

A church in Jersey is seeking permission to create a new family-focused space inside its building in a bid to encourage more children and young people to take part in services.

St Ouen’s Church has submitted a planning application to the States of Jersey to install oak-framed screens that would enclose parts of the building. The panels would separate the north and south aisles from the chancel, forming a dedicated area for family activities.

Church representatives say the proposed space would provide a more suitable environment for families while still allowing them to remain within the main church.

The plans come as the parish reports a growing number of younger attendees at services. Church leaders said they had explored other options to accommodate families, including erecting a barn or marquee on nearby land, but concluded these alternatives would not be appropriate.

If approved, the project would be fully funded by members of the parish church. The proposal is currently awaiting review as part of the planning process.
